Hello and welcome to Play It Again Rocky v. 2.0. This site is intended as a source of information for fans of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show, who happen to be in the mid-west. I have been a fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show since 1990. In July of 2000 I was lucky enough to see a production of the stage show here in Kansas City. I found that as much as I loved the movie, the excitement of the play surpassed it by leaps and bounds. There is just something special about knowing that at any moment someone in the show can interact with you. We’ve had actors climb off the stage into our laps, drag us onstage to dance, and stop and applaud an unusually offensive bit of audience participation.
I started the original incarnation of this site many years ago as an outlet for the information I collected in my obsessive following of local productions. As a photography hobbyist I had the great fortune of snapping some beautiful shots of the very first show I attended and I haven’t looked back since. Initially I built the site using Dreamweaver to create all these convoluted and complicated menus and pages. The design aspect took a great deal of time and finally after a couple of server crashes I gave up trying to rebuild. Recently I have become familiar with Google Sites incredibly user friendly format and have rebuilt the site using a much cleaner look and format. Now I am able to update a page the day that I have new content, in just a mere matter of minutes. I am thrilled and excited to utilize contemporary technology and the convenience of social networking sites to keep people current on the latest developments. So without further ado, please click on the sidebar and have a look around. I hope you enjoy and look forward to adding many more shows!
UPDATE 10-3-11This weekend the Play It Again Rocky staff had a great time in Chicago. We initially planned the trip when we heard that Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn were going to do an autograph session at a movie showing there. Meeting them was fantastic, but everything else about the trip was wonderful too. The Hollywood Boulevard Theater is the home to the Completely Crazy cast. I didn’t realize until we got there how many familiar faces we’d see. Many of my collector friends are part of that group, but it was especially nice to see Ruth. It is always such a pleasure to watch her perform and to visit. We ended the weekend with a tiny bit of site seeing in the city and far too much wonderful food. Can’t wait to go back and I’m already looking forward to our next Rocky outing next weekend to St. Louis for the play. Be sure to check back and read more about that in a week or two. UPDATE 4-10-11
I just set up a bogger acct for my site and I will try to incorporate it into these updates soon. In the meanwhile I will post a little snippet from that about the current production here in Kansas City.
Ok so I recently discovered blogger through another project and it seems to be the perfect companion to my site. This weekend was the opening of Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri. The show is being produced by Padgett Productions. I saw the show Friday night, Saturday night (both performances) and will be seeing it again this evening. So far I can say that I really am enjoying this show. There were some technical problems opening night with sound but that seems to plague this particular theater. Those issues, though not entirely fixed, were much better last night. By the late show the cast was really in their element and seemed to be having a great time. There hasn't been a program yet, so I can't give too many details (at least with any accuracy) but I can tell you some of my past RHS favorites are in this production and they are doing an amazing job. Brian Shortess is fantastic as Brad and Ivory Mazur is a wonderful Frank. They are two of my all time favorites and I am very happy to see them back on stage for this show. There are several actors in this show that I recognize from Padgett Production's Evil Dead. I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with them as well. I know I recognize Riff, Columbia, and Rocky from that show and I think they were cast perfectly. Anyway that is enough for now, I just wanted to christen this blog, I'm sure I will have more to post later this week.
UPDATE 3-26-11
Upcoming Shows It is Rocky season again and time to start planning some trips. Just finished with the Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn meet and great in Chicago. Next weekend will be the show in St. Louis. If all goes well we will be seeing the show in Minneapolis later in the month. Halloween weekend we'll be hitting a local Rocky Concert put together by Play It Again Rocky friend Curt Knupp. | Recent Shows Ok I have been slacking a little bit. The last production we attended was by Padgett Productions. I have some great photos to post along with a short write up. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will allow a little free time to post it. |
