I was pretty excited when I heard my college alma mater was going to do Rocky Horror. It is only about an hour drive from where I live now and the admission price was only about $8. So even if the show had been bad, it would have been worth seeing multiple times; however, the show was pretty good. This show asked did not allow audience participation, which is ok, but honestly I typically believe that participation has a life of its own. Sometimes it feels right and sometimes it doesn’t, but forbidding it, makes it just feel a bit wrong. I liked the set for the show, they had a fly system and they
used it, which allowed for some cool effects.
Also they had a video screen above the stage which they used for various
things including the films from Science Fiction Double Feature. The video was done very well. If I had to pick a weakness for this show I
think it would be the costumes. They had
a real Halloween store kind of feel to them.
The cast still managed to sex it up quite a bit, so no harm no
foul. Frank was played a little too “high
school athlete feigning gay” for my taste.
I especially enjoyed the mohawked Riff Raff. Columbia was adorable. The Phantoms were fun as always. We saw the show several times and thoroughly
enjoyed it.
